HELLO...

I’m Jason Goodman, a fully qualified and insured personal trainer and soft tissue injury massage therapist with extensive expertise in rehabilitation, exercise, sports nutrition, and overall well-being.

For over 12 years, I have been providing personal training services in Market Harborough and the surrounding areas. My career, rooted in a military background since 1987 with The Parachute Regiment and The Royal Army Physical Training Corps, has equipped me with a distinctive set of skills and invaluable experience.

SPORTS INJURY MASSAGE

Sports injury massage is a proven therapy that combines deep and superficial tissue techniques, hands-on therapy, soft tissue release, and targeted stretching. This approach focuses on skeletal muscle structures, fascia, and connective tissues. It has been shown to effectively address various soft tissue conditions caused by physical training, competition, or work-related activities.

The reported benefits of sports injury massage, based on experience and observation, include:

  • Increased joint range of motion (ROM)
  • Increased flexibility
  • Decreased muscle tension
  • Improving restricted movement
  • Decreased neurological excitability (nerves more relaxed)
  • Decreased muscle spasms
  • Post-injury or surgery rehabilitation for example after hip or knee replacement
  • General Stress and tension due to lifestyle or poor posture
  • Increased sense of well-being
  • Decreased anxiety and improved mood
  • Better sleep
  • Increased blood flow, assisting in removing waste products
  • Reducing Scaring
  • Increased elimination of exercise waste products (lactic acid)
  • Decreased chance of injury
  • Decreased recovery time between workouts
  • Chronic pain – may have been present for more than 6 months, perhaps due to strain, healing issues or specific trigger points. This can manifest itself as localised or referred pain. Caused by an increase in muscle tension either through muscle lesions, damaged or adhesive connecting fascia, tendon or ligament.

PRE / POST COMPETITION
These massages are effective in reducing pre-competition anxiety, increasing blood flow to muscles, and enhancing mental focus. Post-event massages, on the other hand, prioritize recovery and relaxation. Using gentler techniques, they help soothe fatigued muscles, facilitate the removal of lactic acid, and alleviate muscle tightness.

PRE / POST SURGERY
A post-injury deep tissue massage program is crucial to prevent adhesive scar tissue from causing restrictions, pain, and impairing proper tissue healing. If untreated during its formation, it can lead to discomfort, reduced flexibility, and limited range of motion. Deep tissue massage helps break up adhesive cross-fibre connections, effectively realigning and reorganizing collagen fibres to support optimal recovery.

My goal is to keep you injury-free, so you can continue to train, compete, and perform at your best.

TRAINING / PROGRAMMES

Every training program I create is tailored to the individual, as no two people are the same. Programs are designed based on several factors, including personal goals, reasons for working with a personal trainer, current fitness levels, exercise experience, medical conditions, age, and more. I understand that for many, the idea of joining a gym can feel intimidating—especially if you’re unfamiliar with the environment.

To address this, I offer a mobile personal training service, allowing you to train in the comfort of your own home. I bring the equipment, knowledge, and expertise; all you need to provide is the space.

Each session and training plan is uniquely crafted to suit your specific needs. My ultimate aim is not only to help you achieve your goals but also to equip you with the physical training and nutritional knowledge needed to continue your progress independently, without relying on me in the long term.

During my military career, I was responsible for the physical training of elite Parachute Regiment soldiers, combat medics, tank regiments, and recruit training depots. I prepared them both physically and mentally for operational tours and helped candidates pass P-Company, which is widely considered the army’s toughest physical training course.

Since transitioning from the military, I’ve worked with a diverse range of clients. This includes elderly individuals with muscular dystrophy, as well as people managing fibromyalgia, Parkinson’s disease, arthritis, knee and hip replacements, and recovery from heart attacks or strokes. I’ve also trained physically able individuals striving to improve their fitness or compete at national levels, including runners, triathletes, footballers, swimmers, show jumpers, and multi-discipline athletes.

Whatever your goal or circumstance, rest assured—I have a plan for you.

REHABILITATION

INJURY REHAB TRAINING

My experience has shown that many people become frustrated with slow recovery and attempt to return from injury too soon, often before their bodies are fully ready. Unfortunately, this impatience can result in reinjury, setting them back even further.

Common challenges—such as lack of time, daily responsibilities, fast-paced lifestyles, the monotony of routines, and limited mental engagement—often discourage people from completing their prescribed exercises.

To address this, I provide one-to-one sessions tailored specifically to your injury. Through a structured and progressive training program, I focus on exercises designed to strengthen and condition the muscles and connective tissues associated with your injury. With my guidance, motivation, and hands-on support, I ensure you adopt correct techniques, movement, and posture while incorporating an element of enjoyment to keep sessions engaging. This approach not only promotes adherence to rehabilitation but also optimizes recovery and reduces the risk of reinjury.

PRE & POST SURGERY

Ahead of planned surgery, a great deal can be done to establish the best possible foundation for post-surgical recovery. During an initial consultation, we will develop a tailored exercise plan to prepare your body for surgery.

Following the procedure—and once physiotherapy has cleared you to resume everyday activities—I provide personalized rehabilitation fitness support. Through focused one-to-one sessions, I will guide you through exercises designed to strengthen and condition the affected muscles and connective tissues. The goal is to restore your fitness to a level where you are ready to transition into a regular progressive fitness program.

THE MENTAL HEALTH BENEFITS OF MASSAGE

Massage offers far more than just physical benefits—it also plays a vital role in supporting mental health.

While massage effectively treats tense and injured tissues, one of its key outcomes is stress reduction. This is particularly important during challenging times when stress levels rise, such as dealing with work pressures, a new job, tight deadlines, or demands at home. Soft tissue massage helps promote relaxation by reducing muscular tone and tension.

For the self-employed, the stress and anxiety caused by financial concerns can be especially significant. Similarly, competitive athletes and fitness enthusiasts often experience frustration, anger, or even depression when sidelined by injuries, impacting not only their mental health but also those around them.

Sports injury rehabilitation massage has been proven to lower cortisol levels (the stress hormone) while increasing dopamine and serotonin, which naturally relax and balance stress levels.

Regular massage is not just for those recovering from injuries—it is also a powerful tool for promoting mental well-being, reducing stress and anxiety, and helping to build mental resilience.
